RWEISAT for Wood Art is a group of women who are deeply committed to the practice of “sumud”, an Arabic term which translates to “steadfastness”. This nonviolent resistance approach aims to confront the Israeli occupation. For these women, “sumud” includes providing financial support for their families, but also creating beauty in the face of adversity. RWEISAT specializes in making handmade wooden objects from recycled materials. The group also aims to raise awareness that it plays a vital role in enhancing women’s engagement in the difficult Palestinian context.
